Good Cheap Eats: Boston on $69/day

Boston has tons of options when it comes to food, and fortunately for conference attendees, the area around the Boston Convention and Exhibition Center is an up and coming area for dining.

We asked two of our employees who lived in Boston where we should eat during the GBTA Convention and this is what they recommended.

Restaurants You Can Walk to from the Boston Convention Center

Flour

Flour has good breakfast and lunch sandwiches, but what it’s really known for are the amazing baked goods. The sticky buns are always a hit, and the pie is delicious. Flour can get crowded at lunch so if you’re in a time crunch call ahead.

Lucky’s Lounge

Lucky’s Lounge is a cool spot to dine with friends. It has a little bit of a divey feel but they serve good food and sometimes there’s even live music. The menu is varied enough that everyone should be able to find something they like. A great spot for lunch, dinner or just a drink.

Sportello

Sportello has good pasta, and is a little more upscale. If you are beating your budget and have room to treat yourself, they have a prix fixe lunch menu. Two courses will cost you $32 and three courses are $35.

Legal Harborside

Don’t let the stigma of Legal Seafood being a chain deter you from stopping in at Legal Harborside. This is the flagship location. The downstairs is a casual seafood eatery and the second floor is more formal. Upstairs is a cool bar with a retractable roof.

Drink

Any of Barbara Lynch’s restaurants are really nice (Sportello is also one of her spots) but we especially like Drink. It’s the kind of place you go to tell the bartender what flavors you’re looking for and they come up with a drink for you. The kitchen opens at 4pm and serves snacks and a few entrees if you are looking for a bite to eat.

Restaurants for When You Have Time to Explore More of Boston

In South End

Toro – Toro serves Barcelona-style tapas and is hands down one of the best restaurants in Boston. Make sure you order the corn!

Coppa – This Italian spot is Toro’s sister restaurant. Stop by here for a glass of wine and the Arancini balls.

The Beehive – The Beehive is great for brunch and dinner, and hosts live jazz bands. Overall, it’s a really fun place.

In Boston Proper

Omni Parker House – The Parker House is where the Boston Cream Pie and Parker House Rolls were created. While it’s definitely touristy, go here to experience the original.

Faneuil Hall – While you’re in this area, you can also check out Faneuil Hall. It hosts a variety of food stalls of your looking for a quick cheap bite to eat.

In North End

Neptune Oyster – They serve the best lobster roll – served hot with butter or cold with mayo. Get there at 11am. This place always has a line but it’s a must when visiting Boston.

Regina’s Pizzeria – Stop by if you’re looking for some delicious thin-crust, brick-oven pizza. But it’s no secret how good it it, because there’s always a line.

Dino’s Cafe – This Italian eatery serves amazing sandwiches and they’re so long that they’re perfect for sharing.

Mike’s Pastries or Modern Pastry – Both battle it out claiming they have the best cannolis. Try them both and decide for yourself who gets the crown. There’s also a lesser known spot, Bova’s, if you want to grab your cannoli without the crowds.
