8 Things To Do with 24 hours in SF
It’s hard to really grasp a city in just 24 hours, but in San Francisco there is a plethora of things to do within the city’s seven-by-seven-mile square space that you can easily knock out a handful of attractions and restaurants that will give you a good taste of Fog City, pun intended. Here are just a few things to do with 24 hours in San Francisco.
Spend an afternoon at Mission Dolores Park
If you want to do as the locals do, make a stop at Tartine Bakery, pick up some ridiculously addicting pastries like the morning bun (after you wait in line, that is) then walk to Bi-Rite Market, grab a few picnic snacks like a cheese block or two, some fancy olives, and maybe a market kale salad and head across the street to Dolores Park.
Find yourself a nice grassy patch to get comfortable on, make sure to bring a book or a mini-boombox and enjoy the views (and smells) of San Francisco!
Throw back a few oysters at Hog Island Oyster Co.
The Ferry Building in San Francisco is an attraction for food lovers, not to be missed! It’s a culmination of some of SF’s finest food purveyors and artisanal producers all under one roof.
On a clear day (which is quite rare, thanks to Karl), sit outside of Hog Island Oyster Co. and order a half-dozen oysters from Tomales Bay and pair it with a crisp glass of rosé for the perfect mid-day treat.
Get cultured at San Francisco Museum of Modern Art
Seven floors of sensory overload await you at SF MoMA. No matter what type of art you fancy, there is something for everyone. Take a coffee break at the Sightglass coffee bar on the third floor and definitely don’t skip the sculpture garden on the fifth floor along with the Andy Warhol galleries. Tickets are $25 a pop but you can check their website for periodic “Free Family Days” when two adults can claim a free ticket when accompanied by a visitor 18 and under.
Chow down on chowda at Fisherman’s Wharf
Is it a trip to SF without having a bread bowl at Boudin Bakery? This creamy bowl of New England-style clam chowder comes out piping hot in a freshly baked sourdough bread bowl and it’s the answer to all your foggy day prayers in San Francisco. At less than $10 a bowl, stop everything you’re doing and just go.
Get your ‘gram shot of Lombard Street
The famed steep road with eight hairpin turns is a sight to see and has been dubbed the “Crookedest Street in the World!” Stretching from The Presidio on the east end all the way to The Embarcadero on the west end, the scenic block is between Jones St. and Hyde St. and the views of San Francisco from up top are absolutely breathtaking.
Have a dumpling at Good Luck Dim Sum
While we could barely even begin to scratch the surface of eateries you have to try while in SF, Good Luck Dim Sum is a great choice if you’re looking for a no-frills, cheap eat.
Starting at just $2/dumpling, you can try one of each! Menu highlights include the shrimp dumplings, BBQ pork buns and the sesame balls. Make sure to bring cash as they don’t accept credit cards.
Hike the Land’s End Trail
If you’re looking for panoramic views of the Golden Gate Bridge, look no further! Both locals and tourists frequent this easy 3-mile trail that offers scenic views of the coast.
Eat tacos at Tacolicious
We’d be remiss not to mention tacos at least once in a roundup about things to do in SF, and Tacolicious will always go down as a beloved SF taco joint.
The trendy Mexican eatery has multiple locations across the city with locals raving about the Marina girl salad and the shot-and-a-beer chicken taco… but hey, don’t take their word for it.
